Summary and objectives

The Enlightenment Initiative on Viral Hepatitis (EIVH) is a non-governmental organization registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria (Registration Number:179743) founded for the purpose of creating public awareness about Viral Hepatitis among Nigerians. We are a group of scientists comprising of Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Infectious Diseases experts and Virologists with members across the different geo-political zones of Nigeria. We are actively involved in the care and management of patients with viral hepatitis in Nigeria. We are also involved in conducting research on various aspects of viral hepatitis in Nigeria.

Our objective is to reduce the burden of Viral Hepatitis and its complications among Nigerians. We hope to achieve this by organizing public health outreaches, centered on creating awareness about Viral Hepatitis, on a quarterly basis in different geo-political zones of Nigeria which will coincide with global public health campaign days as follows:

February 4 -----------  World Cancer Day

April 7        ----------- World Health Day

July 28       -----------  World Hepatitis Day

Oct 1          -----------  Liver Cancer Awareness Month

We have successfully conducted series of public health outreaches on viral hepatitis among different population groups and in different communities in Nigeria. The highlights of some of these events are available on our website: https://eivh.org

Our next public health outreach is coming up on February 4, 2023 (World Cancer Day) to create public awareness about Viral Hepatitis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma. We shall provide Health Talks, Free Counselling and Free Screening for Hepatitis B and C viruses during this outreach.

Our major challenge is funding. We do not have the necessary funds to finance the cost of procuring Test Kits and consumables, Vaccines and other health campaign items such as media coverage, banners, posters, T-shirts, face caps, flyers, public address system and so on.
