Olufunmilayo Lesi, FWACP, FMCP is a Professor of Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist. She has over 16 years’ experience in GI & Hepatology and was Head of Hepatology at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital where she actively co-ordinates the clinical care and management of patients with viral hepatitis and liver disease. She is a member of several national and international groups, including WHO’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Group on Viral Hepatitis (2017). She has contributed to the WHO Hepatitis B guidelines for prevention, care and treatment (published 2015) and hepatitis C (published 2016). She is a member of the Federal Government of Nigeria Technical Working group on Hepatitis control and has experience with formulation of the national hepatitis policy and strategic plans. The primary area of her research has been in viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma in Western Africa. She has significant research experience and was actively involved in hepatitis and liver cancer study in the Gambia, West Africa (IARC/Gambia Hepatitis Intervention Study) and has many publications in Local and international peer reviewed journals. She has been involved with training and manpower development in Medicine and Hepatology and GI endoscopy in Nigeria and the West African Sub-region.
