This week, Dr. Ward and the Coalition published a correspondence piece in the Lancet as a call to action to the donor community. In awarding the Nobel Prize to Drs. Houghton, Alter, and Rice for their discovery of hepatitis C, the Nobel Committee recognized not only their scientific achievements but also the potential of the science to benefit humanity. Over the past 30 years, science, medicine, and public health have built the foundation for HCV elimination. Despite these advancements, HCV elimination is at risk unless the donor community steps up to finance the scale-up of HCV elimination initiatives.  The Coalition calls on donors to finish the journey of HCV elimination started by the discovery of the virus.
